The Ateneo Corporate Sustainability Conference (ACSC) is MEA's flagship project, oriented towards holistically teaching Corporate Sustainability (CS) in the Philippine context. It aims to be the premiere learning resource for CS within and beyond its primary event: a two-day conference for high school students with engaging talks and activities. In embodying MEA's core competency and core advocacy, ACSC integrates CS practices and systems thinking in its executions and core processes. As such, ACSC will provide its core members with opportunities for growth and meaningful work and an avenue to learn more about CS.
Projected Timeline: November to April
Join if you are interested in learning more about CS and are geared towards growth
and meaningful work in a passionate community.
ACSC is the primary driver of Corporate Sustainability education among high school students. It fosters growth as a premier CS learning resource to MEAns and high school students alike.
Given the current context, we expect your proposal to include thorough contingency plans especially for the following scenarios:
As you all know, ACSC 2020 didn’t turn out quite like we expected, but working for the project has still been a dream. Regardless of what form the project takes, I think you can be sure that it will always be one with a lot of heart and passion because it is MEA’s main way of sharing its core advocacy beyond the organization and trying to make connections with high school students who could turn into future business leaders. Throughout the entire project, I always felt that I was working with the best people because all of them were rooted not only in learning committee-specific skills, but also in the goal of spreading something they believe in.
Although ACSC is definitely a robust project with ideally set dates and program structures, I think its real pull is that it is also a much bigger community and cause that helps you create meaningful value. There’s no denying that you will receive just as much fulfillment as a core member or facilitator, but managing the project also allows you to shape your members’ experiences and connections to make sure that they meet their goals and find fulfillment in what they do. A lot of being a PM for ACSC is about driving learning and finding ways to concretely communicate the value and relevance of CS while still being engaging. Ultimately, ACSC is about renewing faith in good business and sparking interest in the more human aspects of business!!
Honestly, this experience has taught me the value of balancing being visionary and execution-based. With ACSC, you have to consistently look at the vision you set and challenge the current systems to elevate the whole project’s impact and experience. I know going for ACSC might seem like such a big step especially since there isn’t exactly a definite baseline for what next year’s iteration is going to be like, but it’s always important to consider what impact you want to create for the project and ultimately what gets you excited for it! It will always feel like you’re building something from the ground up, but the greatest lesson I learned from ACSC is that creating meaning comes in different forms!! There’s still so much you can explore once you drill down into the core of ACSC because everything can be adapted to new contexts or approaches—just take the webinar series as an example.
